Dr. Chris Covington

Chris  CovingtonDr. Chris Covington is a board certified ophthalmologist by the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology.  Dr. Covington attended Delta State University for his undergraduate training and subsequently received his medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in 2005.  He completed his internship at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc, Michigan before receiving his residency training in Detroit, Michigan at the Detroit Osteopathic Ophthalmology Consortium.  During his residency training, Dr. Covington excelled both clinically as well as academically, consistently scoring in the top one third of all ophthalmology residents nationwide on annual knowledge aptitude tests.  Dr. Covington was acting Chief Resident before completing his residency in 2009.

Following residency, Dr. Covington practiced in Winston Salem, North Carolina for two years before relocating to his home state of Mississippi with his wife Jennifer and two daughters to practice at Mississippi Vision.

 

Dr. Covington specializes in both surgical and medical management of eye disease with special interests in cataract and LASIK surgery.

 

An Ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who is trained in traditional medical school and then in a residency focused on diseases of the eye and all types of surgical procedures for the eyes and eyelids. Ophthalmologists have the ability to provide total eye care. Optometrists are trained through specialized schools in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of vision and refractive problems of the eye, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism, and are also trained to fit glasses and contact lenses and to prescribe aids for low vision, such as glasses and contact lenses.
