Mississippi Vision Correction Center brings Refractive Laser Cataract Surgery to Mississippi for Patients who are Interested in a Greater Level of Spectacle Freedom

The LenSx® femtosecond laser revolutionizes the way cataract surgery is performed. Mississippi Vision Correction Center, PLLC has the only LenSx® laser in Mississippi and it is the first laser of its kind approved by the FDA for cataract surgery. The LenSx® laser is designed to provide more precision to the refractive cataract procedure.

The LenSx® femtosecond laser revolutionizes the way cataract surgery is performed. The LenSx® laser uses 3-D image-guided technology that maps the patient’s eye; then the laser uses this computer-guided image to perform precise incisions that would normally be made with a steel or diamond knife. According to Dr. William Aden, who brought modern small incision cataract surgery to Mississippi in 1974, “This technology represents the most significant advance in refractive cataract surgery in 30 years.” Drs. Brannon Aden, William Aden, and Christopher C. Evans began offering the”blade-free” laser cataract surgery in April this year and have since performed almost 200 LenSx® procedures. Dr. Brannon Aden explains,”The LenSx® laser is the most precise way to perform refractive cataract surgery for patients wanting astigmatism correction and greater freedom from glasses. The results have lived up to both our and our patients‘ expectations.”

About Cataracts

Cataract surgery is the most commonly performed surgery in the United States with over 3 million procedures performed annually. A cataract is the age-related clouding of the natural clear lens in the eye, resulting in hazy vision, unusual glare, poor night vision, and a reduction in color perception.

Traditional Cataract Surgery vs. Refractive Laser Cataract Surgery

With traditional cataract surgery, the surgeon makes incisions and removes the natural lens using traditional metal surgical instruments and blades. When choosing the LenSx® laser approach for refractive cataract surgery, the patient will enjoy the benefits of a”blade-free” surgical procedure, enhanced distance vision with the correction of astigmatism or a full range of vision by using a multifocal lens implant.

Cost of Surgery

If the patient has cataracts, insurance companies and Medicare pay for the cataract to be removed and replaced with a standard lens, leaving the patient with the cost of deductibles and co-pays. If the patient chooses to have an advanced vision beyond what basic cataract surgery covers, there are additional out of pocket expenses associated with advanced technology refractive options.
